APPRENTICESHIP LEADS TO EXCELLENCE

The Apprenticeship Program is a two year “earn while you learn” program. The program offers a traditional culinary education for less than $7,000. While other programs have costs at or above $40,000 dollars, the benefit to our program is a financial and hands on benefit. As an apprentice, you will work with an approved sponsoring chef to complete 4,000 hands-on work hours while being paid for each hour worked. You will attend class only one night per week, and have three online courses to complete. A graduating apprentice will have over 4000 hands on work hours and will be able to graduate at a Certified Sous Chef level.

CERTIFICATION

Certification is an important aspect of your culinary career, and our program will help you on that path to continued growth and development. Some of our current sponsor houses have tuition assistance that is available to students, be sure to check with your sponsor house to see if they have that available. That benefit could make apprenticeship a FREE education for you! Apprenticeship is an excellent cost effective alternative for your culinary education. In addition to our apprenticeship program, we offer you monthly educational seminars, community outreach programs and excellent networking opportunities. Apprenticeship gives you all you need to be a successful culinarian.

APPLYING TO THE PROGRAM

In order to be eligible for the program, you must be age 17 or older and have a high school diploma or equivalent. To apply to the program, you must submit a non-refundable $100 Application fee and pick up an application at one of our Application Appointments. The Director of Apprenticeship will provide you with your application and paperwork packet upon acceptance into our program. Applications are available January through August of each year. Space availability is limited in each class and to secure your spot, you will need to turn in an application and supporting documents along with the first year tuition.

APPRENTICESHIP FAQ

Apprenticeship is a hands-on, real world education method.  Apprenticeship has been in existence for multiple trades for hundreds of years.  Colorado has had its apprenticeship program since the 1970’s.

Yes!  You’ll be paid, based on your experience, for every hour you work.

You will attend class one night per week at Metropolitan State University of Denver, Culinary Labs.  Located on Auraria and 12th in Denver, Colorado.

You must be 17 or older and have a high school diploma or equivalent.  You will also be required to secure employment in an Approved Sponsoring House.  You will receive a full list of apprentice sponsor houses at the time you apply for the apprenticeship program.

While restaurant experience is certainly helpful, our instructors and your sponsor house will provide you with a well-rounded education.

The tuition for both years is $6,000.  In addition to tuition there is a 1-time program fee of $750.00.  This includes all of your classes, books, uniform, knives, kitchen and lab fees and your ACF Junior Membership Dues.

You will have 43 semester credit hours transferable to any Colorado community college.  You will have the ability to earn your American Culinary Federation Certified Sous Chef or Pastry Cook designation.  The American Culinary Federation and the US Department of Labor Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training will also give you certificates of completion.
